Chapter 1 – Integers

In this chapter, students learn about the negative set of values of whole numbers and their representation on the number line. The students will come across various properties such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of the integers. The students can learn introduction to numbers, properties of addition & subtraction of integer numbers, additive identity & additive inverse, properties of multiplication of integers, division of integers, number line, and introduction to zero.

Chapter 2 – Fractions and Decimals

Fraction is taken from the Latin word ‘Fractus’. It represents a part of a whole, containing of a number of equal parts out of a whole. Fraction denotes the broken equal or unequal parts of a particular number. From this chapter, the students can learn a representation of fractions, fractions on the number line, multiplication of fractions, fraction as an operator ‘Of’, reciprocal of a fraction, division of fractions, types of fraction, introduction to decimals, multiplication of decimals, and division of decimals.

Chapter 3 – Data Handling

This chapter deals with the processes of the organization of data and its storage in various formats. The students can learn the study of data of different fields, double bar graphs, arithmetic mean & range, median, mode, chance & probability, the scale, organization of data in the right form, and pictographs & bar graphs  

Chapter 4 – Simple Equations

A simple equation is a set of constants, variables, and mathematical operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division which are balanced with an equal sign. Here the general terms like LHS (left-hand side) and RHS (right-hand side) are used. In this chapter, the students will learn variables & expressions, algebraic expressions, mathematical operations on expressions, methods of solving an equation, forming an equation from a solution, and applications.

Chapter 5 – Lines and Angles

This chapter takes students to the geometry section of mathematics. The purpose of lines and angles and their significance in mathematics are well learned by the students. They can explore the knowledge about lines, line segment & ray, angles, complementary angles, parallel lines & a transversal, a transversal intersecting two lines, transversal of parallel lines, checking if two or more lines are parallel, supplementary angles, adjacent angles, linear pair, vertically opposite angle, intersecting & non-intersecting lines, basic properties of a triangle, sum of interior angles in a triangle, and the exterior angle of a triangle.

Chapter 6 – The Triangles and Its Properties

In this chapter, students will learn about triangles and their different properties and applications. Students can study the concept of a triangle, important lines in a triangle, viz median, altitude, a sum of the lengths of two sides of a triangle, the difference between two sides of a triangle, angle sum property of a triangle, exterior angle of a triangle, Pythagoras theorem, properties of isosceles & equilateral triangles, and classification of triangles based on sides and angles.

Chapter 7 – Congruence of Triangles

Congruent figures are exactly equal n size and shape. Congruence is the relation between two congruent objects. In this chapter, the students will learn about congruent triangles, SSS criteria for congruency, SAS criteria for congruency, ASA criteria for congruency, AAS criteria for congruency, and why SSA and AAA congruency rules are not valid, and RHS criteria for congruency.

Chapter 8 – Comparing Quantities

In our routine life, we always compare two quantities. The quantities might be weights, heights, grades, wages, and others. For comparison, the thumb rule is, that both must have the same unit. This chapter will teach students about prices related to buying and selling, finding the profit or loss percentage, percentages, comparing percentages when the denominator is not 100, converting fractions/decimals to percentages, converting percentages to decimals/fractions, estimation using percentages, interpreting percentage into usable data, converting percentage to the form ‘how many’, converting ratios to percentage, introduction to factors & ratios, comparing quantities, ratios, equivalent ratios, proportions, finding the percentage increase or decrease, and simple & compound interest.

Chapter 9 – Rational Numbers

From this chapter, the students will learn an introduction to rational numbers, how to identify them, the types of rational numbers, and their standard form. The students will learn the detail of equivalent rational numbers, LCM, rational numbers between two rational numbers, properties of rational numbers (closure, commutativity, and associative), the addition of rational numbers, subtraction of rational numbers, multiplication & division of rational numbers, negatives & reciprocals, the additive inverse of a rational number, rational numbers on a number line, and comparison of rational numbers.

Chapter 10 – Practical Geometry

From this chapter, the students will learn about the method of construction of a line parallel to a given line using only a sheet of paper, the classification of triangles based on sides & angles, important properties of triangles, construction with SSS criterion, SAS criterion, ASA criterion, RHS criterion,

Chapter 11 – Perimeter and Area

The area of a closed figure is a part of the plane occupied by the closed form and the perimeter is the distance surrounding it. in this chapter, the students will learn, the perimeter, area, the perimeter of square & rectangle, area of square & rectangle, area of a parallelogram, the triangle is a part of rectangle, area of triangle, conversion of units, Life of Pi, terms related to a circle, circumference of a circle, area of a circle, introduction & value of Pi, cost of framing/fencing, cost of painting/laminating, and area of mixed shapes.

Chapter 12 – Algebraic Expressions

A constant is a term having a fixed numeral value. A variable is not a fixed value and can be assigned or replaced with a constant as per requirement. Algebraic equations are formed from variables and constants. This chapter will teach the students about constant, terms of expression, coefficient of a term, algebra as patterns, writing number patterns & rules related to them, writing patterns in Geometry, the definition of variables, formation of algebraic expressions, like & unlike terms, monomial, binomial, trinomial, & polynomial terms, addition & subtraction of algebraic equations, use of algebraic equation in the formula of the perimeter of figures, and use of algebraic equation in the formula of area of figures.

Chapter 13 – Exponents and Powers

In this chapter, the students will study expressing the numbers using exponential notation, dividing powers with an equivalent base, working with the power of influence, etc. This chapter is about powers with negative exponents, visualizing powers & exponents, powers with like bases, power of a power, powers with unlike bases & same exponent, expanding a rational number using powers, interconversion between standard & normal forms, and comparison of quantities using exponents.

Chapter 14 – Symmetry

The two shapes with complete coincidence are symmetric shapes. When a line divides a shape into two identical parts, it is called a line of symmetry. Symmetry within a shape is also possible. in this chapter, the students will understand the concept of symmetry. They will study the basics of symmetry, reflection symmetry, point symmetry, lines of symmetry for regular polygons, rotational symmetry, geometry in rotational symmetry, and figures with both line & rotational symmetry.

Chapter 15 – Visualizing Solid Shapes

This chapter talks about the plane and solid shapes. Plane figures are 2-D figures while solid figures are 3-D. The students can learn about perspectives of a solid shape, quantities associated with solid, nets of solid shape, and representing 3-D shapes on paper.
